Let’s Celebrate Garnacha, the next great grape from Cariñena, Spain!

Today and everyday will be fun way to discover this popular varietal which is planted world wide in an array of styles.

Why Cariñena?

D.O.P. Cariñena is located in the heart of the Ebro Valley in Spain’s northeast region of Aragon. This particular wine region of Spain is one of the oldest producers of Garnacha worldwide.

This gutsy, gorgeous grape thrives in tough but ideal conditions at the high altitude in this region where the vineyards slope into the dramatic Cierzo-windswept plains. Garnacha loves the extreme day-to-night temperature differences which in turn creates conditions for rich, expressive wines crafted from layers of rock, mineral, and earth all contribute to the distinct character of the wines.

What you will experience:

What I love about this crowd-pleasing and food pairing wines is the balance, fruit flavor profile and  quality-to-value with affordable prices that everyone will love. Think aromas and flavors of strawberry, raspberry, black cherry characteristics with an affordable price tag, Garnacha from Cariñena offers extraordinary value and is a pleasure to drink.

Old Vine Garnacha is a hallmark of Cariñena:

  1. Garnacha from Carinena is an up-and-comer becoming more available and distribution has doubled since 2015.
  1. The older the grape vines, the higher the quality. Cariñena is home to more old-vine Garnacha than anywhere else in Spain. Half-a-century old vines are common in Cariñena, with plantings ranging in age from 30 to over 100 years.

Food pairing easy with these food-friendly wines!

The earthy, balanced luscious flavors and aromas pair well with a variety of dishes. You can serve everything from tapas and light salads to smoked meats. I’m also a Paella Chef in Nashville, TN and I think these are perfect wines to pair it with my paella

Enjoy Two Chardonnay’s this Summer from the Golan Heights Winery

The winemaker of Golan Heights Winery’s philosophy of scientific discipline and knowledge has elevated this winery to an international stage.

Yarden Blanc de Blancs 2008 is a very aromatic dry sparkling wine with bold lemon zest, tart green apples and an expression of flint and hints of fresh baked bread which is result of maintaining  the traditional method of producing sparkling wine. Enjoy with seafood dishes and creamy cheeses.

Yarden Chardonnay Odem Organic Garden 2014 is a bold and rich chardonnay with big flavors of ripe tropical fruits, pear and  mouthwatering acidity that reminds me of cutting a fresh juicy lemon. These concentrated flavors linger for a long finish. Enjoy with roasted salmon or creamy pastas.

Winemaker Victor Schoenfeld is one of Israel’s most influential winemakers. He graduated from UC Davis in 1988 with a degree in enology and his work in several California wineries and a champagne house gave him the expertise to produce high quality wines with a sense of place.

Situated in the northeast corner of Israel, the Golan Heights is a high elevation volcanic plateau characterized by distinct soil types, elevation and altitudes that support a range of varieties and styles.  Volcanic basaltic soil, varied topography and cool high-altitude climate is an ideal region for growing a range of classic high-quality wine varieties.
